Description

The Consolidation of a Neo-Populist Collective Identity in Mediatized Constestations of 'Immigration Critique'

Niko Pyrhönen (MSocSc, BA) is currently fi nalizing in CEREN his four-year doctoral project to be defended this summer. Funded by the Kone foundation, he has sought to study why welfare-state pertinent justifi cations are commonly presented in conjunction with articulations of anti-immigration sentiment. In his multidisciplinary doctoral study to be defended this summer, Pyrhönen combines sociological, political science and media studies approaches in order to illustrate how these welfare nationalist narratives were successfully adopted by the Finnish neo-populists, both in the Perussuomalaiset party and among its grassroots level advocates.
