    "In this workshop we will consider how arguments about language or culture can be started and pursued using material evidence. I will draw on my experience studying many manuscripts containing later-medieval English, but I hope our methodological discussion will be useful for students working on a much wider range of topics. I will also try to raise some of the potential risks and problems involved in such work, and to talk through the practical challenges which it can create."
