Description

This course is the fourth graduate course under SNU’s Forest Carbon Sequestration Program. The three other courses include: A graduate Intensive Course on Forest Policy related to climate change (August, 2016), Topics in Forest Resource Policy (5241.517 second semester, 2016) and the Graduate Course on Enhancing Research Capacity (December, 2016). The objective of this course is to build graduate students' capacity to design and implement their research on forest governance with special reference to climate change mitigation and adaptation. In this course, students will develop their knowledge, understanding and skills related to four topics:
• Conceptual and theoretical understanding of governance in general and of governance in forest and natural resources in particular
• Knowledge of observed and projected impacts of climate change on forests and forest landscapes and specific actions and opportunities to mitigate or manage these impacts
• Knowledge of observed and projected impact of climate change on forest dependent communities and of actions and opportunities to mitigate this impact
• Application of the acquired knowledge, understanding and skills to develop viable solutions and evaluate existing proposed solutions in an applied setting in countries around the world
