Description
This panel presentation addresses the themes of resilience and hope in local communities. How do local communities continue flourishing amidst uncertainty and hardship arising from land, climate and social justice struggles? The presentation covers: community activism related to the restoration of life in sites of nuclear destruction in Japan and the Pacific; the Semai Indigenous forest lifeworld in Peninsular Malaysia as a driver of nature protection and indigenous cultural continuity; nature conservation and the revitalization of rural areas through access-to-land and the food sovereignty/agroecology movements; and the Indigenous University – or Pluriversity system – as a catalyst for educational justice and cultural empowerment for Latin America’s indigenous communities.
