Description"The indigenous knowledge is a dying culture or an ancient wisdom? Anthropologists and linguists say that every two weeks a unique language disappears with its last surviving speaker. As we celebrate our life in the 21st century, about half of the world’s 7,000 human languages were not being spoken or taught to younger generations. Can you imagine this happening to your own language — to your own people or culture? But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Along with language, also disappearing are the arts, crafts, vocational skills, folklore, and customs of many traditional and indigenous peoples. When we are crying for the social actions to the climate change, we are at the same time stealing away the livelihood where the indigenous groups have been coping with the nature for over thousands years. The modern world needs the perspectives and wisdom of indigenous and traditional peoples now more than ever. In the 21st century, sustainability is no longer a buzzword but a necessity, and there are some valuable lessons to take away from understanding how indigenous peoples live. In today’s interview, the researcher Yi-An Grace Gao will share her expertise and knowledge on indigenous study and her own personal experience as a Taiwanese Atayal people and how she sees today’s Finnish Sami people. Across the boundaries between East and West, it is the time to listen indigenous people’s voice." - Description from DongXiNanPei Radio Program
