Description

The Geofluids Laboratory is a new state-of-the-art facility for quantitative studies of the physical and chemical properties of fluid and melt phases that drive dynamic processes in the Earth such as plate tectonics, volcanic activity, mountain building and formation of economic mineral deposits. The facility offers access to a wide range of analytical, experimental and computational tools, which are used by research groups from the Department of Geosciences and Geography, Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry and Finnish Museum of Natural History. The resarch carried out in the Geofluids Laboratory makes important contributions to one of the three strategic research focus areas of the University of Helsinki, the Structure of Matter and Materials Science.
