Helsingissä perinteisten ostoskeskusten purkaminen, saneeraaminen ja uudisrakentaminen jatkuu. Ajankohtaisia hankkeita on ainakin viisi. 2000-luvulla jo lähes puolet Helsingin lähiöstareista on purettu. Arkkitehti ja arkkitehtuurin historian tutkija Juhana Heikonen on puolustanut ostareita pitkään. Hänen mielestään ostareiden kadotessa menetetään sekä toimivat lähipalvelut että arvokasta kulttuuri- ja arkkitehtuuriperintöä. Tuukka Lukinmaa haastattelee.
