Curriculum vitae

Born in London, Áurea Domínguez studied piano (Madrid, 2002) and bassoon (Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya, Barcelona 2007). She became a researcher in the University of Helsinki, where she defended her doctoral dissertation on bassoon performance practice (published by Universitatis Helsingiensis as Bassoon Playing in Perspective: Character and Performance Practice from 1800 to 1850).

As a performer, Áurea has played in several European orchestras and chamber groups all across Europe and Asia. She has also studied historical performance at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Basel, Switzerland) specializing, under professor Donna Agrell, in period bassoons: Baroque, Classical, Early Romantic and Late Romantic. 

Description of research and teaching

Currently, Áurea is researching at the University of Helsinki working on a project on historical performance practice, and a freelance historical and modern bassoonist.

Moreover, she has been teaching the subject “Music Performance philosophy” at the University of Helsinki.
