Description of research and teaching

  • Doctoral researcher 2018-2022: 'Water and fire: volatile ecologies and politics of vulnerabilization in the global south'

My research focuses on climate vulnerabilities, natural resource politics and socio-environmental conflicts in Latin America. Currently in Kone Foundation funded reserach project (2018-2022) I focus to study climate change, water governance and water conflicts in the Peruvian Andean region.

Besides my research work I teach at the university on courses related to political ecology, natural resource governance, societal environmental sciences and Latin American studies.

I also write regularly journalistic articles on environmental issues and Latin America. I am an editor-in-chied in online popular science magazine Versus which covers publications on geography and societal environmental sciences. I have also lectured on science communication in workshops and events organized by Versus and science journalism courses of University of Helsinki and Helsingin Sanomat.

I have several years of experience on questions related to environment, sustainable development and politics in Latin America. I have worked in several research projects in Peru and in a sustainable development project in Guatemala. I have also attended academic conferences, lectured and travelled in Colombia, Cuba, Belize, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.
