Curriculum vitae

My research background is in language variation and change, specifically the history of English from a sociolinguistic angle. I've done a lot of research on the Late Modern English period, particularly the eighteenth century, when the English language was undergoing a strong phase of standardisation but variation still abounded. I got my PhD in 2009 on a sociolinguistic study in the correspondence of the Bluestocking network, and I have published a letter corpus of their correspondence (http://bluestocking.ling.helsinki.fi/). In 2017 I was awarded a docentship at the University of Helsinki.

My teaching experience covers skills courses (academic writing, text analysis) and BA- and MA-level options courses. I have taught courses on language and identity, sociolinguistics, variation and change in English, global and regional variation in English, and digital aspects of English.
