Personal profile

Curriculum vitae

I am a cognitive psychologist interested in thinking and reasoning, with a particular interest in thinking styles, individual differences, and why we are sometimes so rational and sometimes so irrational. I have done research on cognitive and social cognitive topics such as argumentation, domain-general and domain-specific information processing, intuitive and analytic thinking, cognitive biases, beliefs, empathy, intuitive physics abilities, non-social or physical cognition, cognitive gender differences, cognitive abilities, and occupational choices. Methodologically, my research experience spans the design and validation of survey measures, correlational studies, experimental research designs, and behavioral methodology such as reaction time measurements, pupillometry and mouse tracking. I have coauthored papers using fMRI and participated in large international, cross-cultural projects. My current research focuses on the cognitive processes involved in how laypeople understand and think about informal arguments.
