Curriculum vitae

My post doctoral project "Plastic Passions: The Ethics and Somaesthetics of Self-Enhancement in Contemporary Biohacking" (2020-2023, Academy of Finland) centers on an ethnography of biohacking as an emerging mode of techno-asceticism (in the sense of "self-improvement") that lies somewhere at the intersection between complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), cybercultures, and self-tracking. I am interested in new ways of conceptualizing and using the body within biohacking, as well as in the ramifications of its cybernetic imaginary for our shifting ideologies, aesthetics, and political contexts of the embodied self more generally.

My doctoral dissertation 'Intimately Allegorical: The Poetics of Self-Mediation in Stand-Up Comedy' (2019, University of Turku) deals with stand-up comedy as a performance of self-presentation and an economy of relatability.

I am the editor-in-chief of the journal Elore (https://journal.fi/elore) and editorial secretary of Lähikuva (https://journal.fi/lahikuva/).
