Personal profile

Description of research and teaching

I teach in the Bachelor's Programme in Cultural Studies and the Master's Programme in Area and Cultural Studies, and my courses tend to deal with cultural theory and approaches to area and cultural studies as well as European contemporary cultures and cultural history. I lead research seminars on the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels.

My research has focussed on early modern European cultural history and historical and cultural theory. I have been especially interested in the history and culture of humour, gender and the body. I lead a research project on Northern Nightmares, ca. 1400-2020 (Academy of Finland), within which we study the cultural and social history of bad dreams experienced by people in Finland in a long-term perspective.
