Description of research and teaching

Research interest

I am interested to unravel the mechanisms that drive wildlife population dynamic and their habitat choice in order to provide management and monitoring tools to managers and decision makers. I have particularly focused my research on game species with special emphasis on Anatidae. I have studied their ecology (from foraging ecology to habitat use) on their wintering, staging and breeding ground in Europe.

Through my current project funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation (Häme Regional Fund and Central Fund), I am investigating the effects of water browning on lake ecosystem functioning in the boreal zone based on long-term data sets collected in the Evo area, Finland. These data sets include long-term water quality, land-use , vegetation, invertebrates, fish and waterbird databases. I am working in close collaboration with wetland managers with the goal to provide best management practices to improve water and waterfowl habitat quality.
