Research output

I have published three first-author peer-reviewed articles since 2020, printed in major environmental (i.e., Science of the total environment, Ecological indicators), and ecological (i.e., Oikos) scientific journals. Also, during my Ph.D., I established a collaboration network with more than 90 researchers with which I collaborated in a recently published preprint and other six forthcoming manuscripts. My main research themes include aquatic ecology, functional diversity, biogeography, and macroecology. I am especially interested in large-scale biodiversity patterns in species functional traits. My model taxa for testing ecological principles includes, but is not restricted to, the phytoplankton community. I also conduct research synthesis to test the generality of observed ecological patterns such as how functional beta diversity varies geographically and between different ecosystems and taxa. Since the beginning of my Ph.D., I have traveled to three countries to collaborate with researchers beyond my supervisor's network. These include my current mentor Janne Soininen, and my collaborators Martin Gosser and Angel Segura. These research visits resulted in the ideas used within METAFOR, a paper published in Oikos journal first-authored by me in collaboration with Angel Segura, and a forthcoming paper from my collaboration with Martin within his HIATES project.

Scientific and societal impacts

I have been a reviewer in eight journals (i.e., Ecology and Evolution, Journal of Biogeography, Global Ecology and Biogeography, Journal of Ecology, Phycologia, Journal of Vegetation Sciences, Freshwater Biology, and Diversity and Distributions), and served as invited editor for Frontiers of the Environmental Sciences. Also, I have given oral presentations at six national conferences plus one international.
