Description of research and teaching

Didem Unal Abaday is Academy Research Fellow at the Faculty of Theology of University of Helsinki. Previously, she was a Thyssen Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies of Central European University and a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Ethnology, Gender Studies and History of Religions of Stockholm University. She was also a visiting research fellow at the department of Women's and Gender Studies at Rutgers University and at the Graduate Center of City University of New York. She received her PhD from the Department of Political Science at Bilkent University in 2015. Her research interests focus on women's movements and gender politics in the Middle East, global Islam, diasporic Muslim femininities, politics of Islamic veiling, Muslim feminism, Muslim fashion and feminist resistance strategies in right-wing populist regimes. Her recent publications appeared in various academic journals such as Women's Studies International Forum, European Journal of Women's Studies, Journal of Women, Politics and Policy, Politics & Gender and Journal of Middle East Women's Studies.
