Description of research and teaching

Research: My research is concerned with topics ranging from technical aspects of radar signal and data processing to microphysics of clouds and precipitation. It is motivated by the need to improve understanding of cloud and precipitation formation processes and thus the accuracy of weather and climate forecasts. I am trying to achieve this by utilizing state-of-the-art measurement technology and by analyzing observations using sophisticated microphysical models. Most of my recent work falls into three categories:

  1. development of advanced radar technology and signal processing techniques that will facilitate better measurements of clouds and precipitation
  2. development of novel radar techniques to retrieve cloud and precipitation processes remotely
  3. application of these techniques to improve understanding of global water cycle and regional weather

Teaching: I am using a wide range of teaching methods including lectures, laboratory practicals, field practicals, team projects, undergraduate and graduates student project supervision. My main lecture courses are Cloud Physics and Advanced Course in Radar Meteorology. I am also co-organizing course “Applications of dual-polarization weather radars that is given during European Conference on Radar in Meteorology and Hydrology. The course has been held since 2008.
