Research

I am a doctoral student working in a project called Language Regulation in Academia (LaRA, web page http://www.helsinki.fi/project/lara/) directed by dosent Anna Solin. The project is funded by the Kone Foundation, and it started in January 2015. My main focus is to look at how language professionals use and regulate their own and other's language in academia.

I received my Master's degree in the University of Helsinki in February 2014. The title of my master's thesis was Construing Identities and Competence: L2 English Speaker Perceptions (https://helda.helsinki.fi/handle/10138/152688). In my thesis I was able to show that advanced L2 English speakers construe two different types of identities, learner and user identities, when describing their English usage. In addition, contructions of competence were multifaceted. Competence was construed as different cognitive and performative skills and abilities.
