Hannu Vartiainen is a Professor of Microeconomic Theory at the University of Helsinki. He is director of the Doctoral Programme in Economics.

Vartiainen received his doctorate from the University of Helsinki in 2000. Since then he has served as a Post Doctoral Fellow of the Acedemy of Finland, Scientific Director of the Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation, and Professor of Economics at the University of Turku. He has held visiting positions at MIT, University of Cambridge, and Stanford University. Vartiainen is a CESifo Fellow.

Hannu Vartiainen’s research concerns theoretical economics; game theory, mechanism design, decision theory, and social choice theory. His work has been published in outlets such as Theoretical Economics, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of the European Economic Association, and Games and Economic Behavior.
