Personal profile

Curriculum vitae

I currently work as a Doctoral Education Planning Officer at Helsinki University Research Services. I am responsible for the administration of the Doctoral Programmes for Integrative Life Sciences (ILS), Clinical Veterinary Medicine (CVM), and Drug Research (DPDR).

Earlier, I worked as postdoctoral researcher in Aesthetics at the University of Helsinki. My research focuses on topics related to aesthetic experience, especially aesthetic immersion. I am also interested in phenomenological and hermeneutic aesthetics and the history of modern aesthetics. Besided research, I teach courses on aesthetics both at the University of Helsinki and the Open University.

I completed my doctoral degree in 2019 with a thesis titled Going Elsewhere: A Phenomenology of Aesthetic Experience. My first postdoc-project Aesthetic Self-Forgetfulness: A Phenomenological Study on Aeshtetic Experience and Self-Consciousness (2019–2021, funded by the Kone Foundation) studied the role of self-consciousness in aesthetic immersion. Currently I'm writing a textbook on aesthetic experience in Finnish with funding from the Alfred Korderlin Foundation and the Association of Finnish Nonfiction Writers.

I am currently the President of the Finnish Society for Aesthetics and an Editor of the Journal of Aesthetics and Phenomenology. I am also a member of the Young Academy of Finland (2019–2023). Since 2011, I have also worked as an art critic in the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
