Personal profile

Description of research and teaching

My research focus is on long-term climatic changes and the associated ecological and biogeographical responses. As a quaternary geologists, I operate on long, millennial times-scales and at the interface of geological and biological sciences. Current scientific questions are, for example, the response of northern biota (plants and animals) to the glacial-interglacial warming, the nature of the Holocene thermal maximum and the origin and long-term development of the Boreal biome. My research involves intense collaboration with climate modellers, ecologists, climatologists and computer scientists.
