Description of research and teaching

My research addresses the expanding discussion on the relevance of political emotions in democratic politics and education. It especially focuses on exploring the emphasis on political emotions in recent discussions on identity politics and examines both the tensions and possibilities involved in education for political emotions with respect to constructing and pursuing collective political aims.

I defended my PhD thesis in May 2022 and currently work in the interdisciplinary DEMOPOL research project (Kone foundation, 2021–2023) where I explore how education could contribute to resolving global crises through collective political action in today’s societies that are increasingly characterised by political polarisation and identity-related differences, conflicts and inequalities. In my PhD, I focused on Martha Nussbaum’s political philosophy in the context of education.
