Personal profile

Description of research and teaching

I am a Science and Technology Studies (STS) scholar drawing from sociologies of medicine/health and illness, law and society, and to a lesser degree from sociology of insurance.

I am currently the PI of a Kone foundation project examining the uses and influence of experiential knowledge and contested illness in the Finnish service and benefits system (2026-2028).

I additionally hold a researcher position at LUT university (2026-2027) studying the politics of climate and energy transition modelling.

Prior to this (2023-2025) I studied insurance medicine. I focused on the interaction of medicine, insurance and law in varied institutional contexts of dispute resolution.

I am also engaged (2024-) in an interdisciplinary research project that uses computational methods to model cross-disciplinary diffusion of knowledge.

My dissertation (2020) handled medical expertise in Helsinki District court from the perspective of science and technology studies, with emphasis on judges' evaluation of evidence, advanced MRI technology, and clinical practice guidelines in court.

I also teach and coordinate a post graduate course on science, expertise and society at University of Helsinki.
