Personal profile

Description of research and teaching

I work in the Univeristy of Helsinki at the Faculty of Theology as Adjunct Professor (Docent) and university lecturer in the Department of Practical Theology. I make reserach on and teach several practical-theological subjects and issues, including the study of religious communication, religion and culture, and law and religion.

As for my research activities, I was originally focused on questions concerning religious art and specifically the study of Orthodox icons. During the past ten years, I have made research on the larger field of religious communication; media and religion, rituals, social media, and also written on hymnology. Currently, I write also on questions of law and religion from Orthodox minority prespective, and make research on lay liturgical activities. As the manager of the project Arctic Christianity I am also involved in the study of circumpolar relatiosnhips of Christianity and indigenous beliefs in the context of the Arctis.
