Curriculum vitae

I am Professor of Cooperative Law at the University of Helsinki from January 2019 and the Dean of the Faculty of Law from December 2025. At the University of Helsinki, I teach cooperative law and corporate sustainability. In research and teaching, my fields of expertise are corporate and cooperative law, sustainable business law, corporate governance, finance and securities law as well as law and economics. I have written several books and articles either alone or with colleagues on these subjects in English, Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish. Now I work mainly with articles concerning sustainable business models, accounting and sustainability, digitalisation, cooperativism, institutional investors, public market actors and theoretical framework on the regulatory dynamics between the public and the private.

I was Professor of Law at the University of Oslo Faculty of Law from September 2015 to November 2025. From December 2025, I have been Professor II (visiting professor). At the University of Oslo, I am a work package leader in the Horizon Europe project Towards a New Zero Food Waste Mindset Based on Holistic Assessment (ToNoWaste) (2022-2027). Previously, I was the deputy head of the Research Group Companies, Markets, Society and the Environment and Sustainability Law and the leader of UiO:Nordic Research Group Futuring Sustainable Nordic Business Models  At the University of Oslo, I taught mostly law and economics. In 2016-2020, I was the risk manager at the Sustainable Market Actors for Responsible Trade (SMART) project, funded by the European Commission Horizon 2020 program. 

In 2002-15, I held the chair of Commercial Law law at the University of Turku Faculty of Law, being the last years the Dean of the Faculty. I hold a title of docent in law and economics at the University of Helsinki and at the University of Eastern Finland. I have been a member of the board of the University of Turku, a member of the scientific council of the State Audit Office of Finland, the chair of the Audit Board of the Finnish State, vice chair of the Redemption Board of the Central Chamber of Commerce Finland as well as a member of the European Commission's advisory group on corporate governance and company law. Before my professorships, I was a senior officer at the Ministry of Justice, Finland.

My goal is to deepen my understanding of and skills in business law and its role in the society.
