Personal profile

Description of research and teaching

My current research explores the field of everyday governance that emerges from claims and responses related to land, housing and basic services in the urban fringes of Namibia and Botswana. Themes include the relationships between residents and various authorities, associated interests, strategies and dependencies, social infrastructuring, arrangements of ownership, tenure and access, and the relationships between state formation and city formation. Previously, I have carried out research on Namibian ex-combatant and veteran politics as well as life histories of Namibian former exiles.
