My peer-reviewed monograph Japanilainen musiikki: Taiko-rumpujen kuminasta J-poppiin (Japanese Music: From the rumble of the taiko drums to J-pop; Helsinki, Gaudeamus, 2019) was chosen as one of the finalists for the Finnish award for scholarly books and won the publication award of the Finnish Society for Ethnomusicology. It discusses the role of music in Japanese culture and society from the classical period until today. The book also contains original interviews of some of the most influential individuals in modern Japanese music history: Toshi Ichiyanagi (composer), Tadashi Tajima (shakuhachi), Mitsuo Hagita (pop arranger), Tamiya Terashima (film composer), Takako Okamura (singer-songwriter), and Yasunori Nishiki and Rina Yūgi (videogame composers).
