Personal profile

Description of research and teaching

I am a researcher and a university lecturer in mathematics education in the University of Helsinki. My research interests address affect, engagement and the social and contextual aspects of mathematics learning. I am currently active in following research projects: Australian - Spanish - Finnish project The Social Essentials of Learning (https://socialunitoflearning.iccr.edu.au); Finnish project MathTrack, which uses mobile gaze tracking to study attention and emotion in collaborative mathematical problem solving; Finnish project Autonomous assessment in mathematics learning, wherein a modern technology-based teaching is administered, and adaptive assessment practices developed. I have also published a book in Finland called Math Hunger, claiming that people would be hungry for learning mathematics, if that would be properly served. I have been awarded in Finland both by my dissertation and by my work of making mathematics more meaningful and inclusive.
