Description of research and teaching

2020-Aug 2022 I worked as Commercial Secretary for Trade and Environment in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Finland. I covered a broad range of trade policy and sustainable development topics (incl. Trade and sustainability in trade agreements, environmental goods and services (EGS), circular economy, EU’s green deal, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, due diligence (deforestation), fossil fuel subsidies reform, energy and raw materials (trade and supply chains perspective), global carbon pricing and trade policy support for Latin America. I was managing and coordinating national, EU and multilateral policies and processes and participating research projects (steering committees) financed by Finnish government and international institutions. I was engaged in the formation of trade and environmental sustainability agenda internationally (particularly in the EU, WTO, OECD), and building coherence between environmental, trade and investment policies. My role included also strengthening Finland’s role as an advocate to promote sustainability in an inclusive way globally incl. through development cooperation and Aid-for-Trade. I was also ministry’s focal point for the national circular economy strategy and the World Circular Economy forum.

2017-2019 I worked as a University Teacher in Agricultural economics. I taught in the Environmental and Food Economics Bachelor’s programme (YET) and Agricultural, Environmental and Resource Economics Master’s programme (AGERE) the following courses:

Agricultural and Rural Policy of the European Union
Economics of Agriculture and Agricultural Policy
Agricultural Policy, Environment and Rural Areas
International Agricultural Trade and Trade Theory

I also assisted the Professor and instructured students in the following courses:

Price Analysis and Market Structure of the Agrifood Supply Chain I
Price Analysis and Market Structure of the Agrifood Supply Chain II 

In addition, my tasks included bachelor’s thesis supervision, co-supervision in a project course for Agricultural Sciences Department, student councelling, administrative and other operative tasks, the planning and implementation of the university reform "Big Wheel" into agricultural economics and policy, and a membership of the board of Environmental and Food Economics Bachelor’s programme (YET). I was also continuously developing the teaching practices and the programme. 

In 2019, I received an award from the Agricultural Economics student's association for inspirational teaching, special work on improving students’ conditions, building communication and cooperation structures between the university and students.
