Personal profile

Description of research and teaching

I received my Ph.D. in genetics in 2005 from the University of Helsinki. After that I have worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki and Folkhälsan for several years, as well as a genotyping specialist in the Genotyping Unit of FIMM Technology Centre.

Currently I work as a Senior Researcher and Communications Coordinator at the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland FIMM, University of Helsinki. My main responsibility is to take care of FIMM’s science communication.  I have received further training in communications in 2012-2013 and have expertise in communication planning and implementation. I support other FIMM researchers in their outreach activities by writing press releases and news stories, organizing media events and hosting visitor groups.

My research interests lie in the field of complex trait genetics, especially in the genetics of pain sensitivity and migraine. I have ongoing research collaborations with Aarno Palotie (FIMM), Maija Wessman (Folkhälsan), Eija Kalso (HUS, BrePainGen project) and Ville Pettilä (HUS). I have a role in several EU Research Projects (Gloria, EUROHEADPAIN) and act as a supervisor of several Ph.D. students.
