Personal profile

Description of research and teaching

Professor of Classical Philology 2023 onwards. In 2018–2023 I was the principal investigator of the project "Digital Grammar of Greek Documentary Papyri" (ERC Starting Grant 2017) and an Associate Professor. I was a postdoctoral researcher in the project Act of the Scribe. Transmitting Linguistic Knowledge and scribal Practices in Graeco-Roman Antiquity funded by the Academy of Finland 2015–2018. A previous project of my own as a postdoctoral researcher of the Academy of Finland (2012–2015) was called: SEMATIA: Linguistic Annotation of the Greek Documentary Papyri. In general, I am interested in languages and linguistic variation, language contact and bilingualism using mainly Greek papyrological sources. Especially digital resources in the study of the ancient languages are my focus area. My PhD dissertation (2011) was about bilingual notaries in Hellenistic Egypt (published as Bilingual Notaries in Hellenistic Egypt. A Study of Greek as a Second Language. Collectanea Hellenistica 5. Brussel).

I have also been a member of the research group, led by Professor Jaakko Frösén, publishing the carbonized papyrus dossier from the Byzantine period, found in Petra, Jordan.
