Curriculum vitae

Marko Halonen is a Ph.D. candidate in History at the Faculty of Humanities. He is specialised in digital humanities, in particular digital phylomemetics and the analysis of medieval calendars. He is currently writing his Ph.D.-thesis about studying medieval Nordic calendars. During the academic year 2014-2015 he was the Wihuri-fellow at the Finnish Institute in Rome (Institutum Romanum Finlandiae). He was also a member of the editorial board of a scholarly dictionary Parvum Lexicon Stemmatologicum. He is currently a member of the research group of Finnish Institute in Rome which studies the concept of time in medieval Rome.

He received his BA and MA from the University of Helsinki (2010, 2012), with two semesters as a visiting student at the University of Edinburgh (2007-2008). His BA-thesis was about ancient Roman historiography concerning Scotland. In his MA-seminar thesis Halonen alalysed the concept of knighthood in the medieval chronicle of Orderic Vitalis, and in his final MA-thesis Halonen studied the late medieval chronicle of Paulus Juusten from a digital stemmatological and phylomemetic perspective.
