Curriculum vitae

I am a PhD student in the Doctoral Programme of Gender, Culture and Society (SKY). My research interests focus on gender, sexuality and relationship diversities and the norms surrounding them.

My PhD examines the ways in which consensually non-monogamous (such as polyamorous, open and swinging) relationships are made sense of in contemporary Finnish contexts: in online news and their comment sections and in the accounts of social and health care professionals and the documents that guide their work. It also analyses the everyday lived experiences and practices of consensually non-monogamous individuals in Finland, taking into consideration how intersectional differences affect the ways in which these experiences are produced.

The aims of the study are two-fold: first, to fill in a gap in knowledge about relationships that do not fall into the hetero- and mononormative binary and to highlight the different ways in which social processes regulate and govern general understanding of monogamy. My dissertation is interdisciplinary as it draws understanding from the fields of sexology, social psychology, and feminist studies.
