Senior research fellow in political history and and leader of the project "the Language of Military Power within the Finnish Democracy"

 Research interests: Visual representations of wars and crisis, visuality of politics, humanitarianism, militarism, militarization, vulnerability, migration, refugeeness, international politics, photography, security politics, propaganda, strategic communication, humanity, human rights, animal rights, empathy, global security, media studies, feminist studies


Curriculum vitae

I am a social scientist and a historian interested especially in visual communication, international relations, media studies, global politics, militarism, militarization and Critical Military Studies. I head the Kone Foundation research project "sotilaallisen vallan kieli suomalaisessa demokratiassa (the Language of Military Power within the Finnish Democracy) (2022-2025) My research interests include visual representations of conflict, crisis and violence, visual communication in relation to humanitarianism, militarism,  violence and global mobility. I am interested in compassion as a political force, (global) hierarchies of valuable life, militarism, violence and feminism. Photography, its history and political utilization fascinate me.
