I am a social scientist and a historian interested especially in visual communication, international relations, media studies, global politics, militarism, militarization and Critical Military Studies. I head the Kone Foundation research project "sotilaallisen vallan kieli suomalaisessa demokratiassa (the Language of Military Power within the Finnish Democracy) (2022-2025) My research interests include visual representations of conflict, crisis and violence, visual communication in relation to humanitarianism, militarism,  violence and global mobility. I am interested in compassion as a political force, (global) hierarchies of valuable life, militarism, violence and feminism. Photography, its history and political utilization fascinate me.
