Description of research and teaching

Pekka Lund is University Lecturer of Missiology (from January 1st 2013 until June 31st 2016) in the Faculty of Theology, University of Helsinki.

He has previously acted as University Lecturer of Practical Theology (2011-2012) and doctoral student and researcher of Church History (2001-2006).

Lund has specialized on one hand in the History of Christian Missions and historical methodology and on the other hand in recovery from substance abuse.

In his doctoral dissertation Lund researched Finnish Missionaries in China in the early 20th century. In addition to the dissertation Lund has published another monograph and several articles on the topic. His special interest has been in various ways of interpreting historical sources ranging from the history of mentalities to micro history. Especially Lund has been developing psycho historical approach that brings together historical sources and social psychological theories. Additionally Lund has researched the role Christianity plays in the recovery from substance abuse.

Current research interests cover the following: Global Christianity and the history of Christian Missions, Christian recovery from substance abuse, and the role Religions play in causing and solving conflicts.
