Curriculum vitae

Dr. Pratyush Nath Upreti is a lawyer admitted to the Nepal Bar Council. He holds a Ph.D. from Sciences Po, Paris, an LLM from Maastricht University, Netherlands, as a UM High Potential Scholar and a BSc.LLB (Hons) from KIIT University India. He is affiliated to Stanford Law School Transatlantic Technology Fellow (TTLF) as a fellow and as a research affiliate at Sciences Po Law School. He is also a visiting professor at Sciences Po Menton Campus. In past, he has held several visiting positions including research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich, Germany, and the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management (CIPPM) of Bournemouth University in the UK. He has represented international organizations at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), specialized agencies of the United Nations, and delivered an Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL) statement on the Marrakesh Treaty at the WIPO General Assemblies-2016.

Currently, he is working on a research project funded by the Academy of Finland and other projects, including ‘intellectual property and COVID-19’. He is also preparing a manuscript on international intellectual property with Edward Elgar Publishing, Cheltenham/UK. He has worked as Lecturer in Law since 2016-2019 at the Europe-North American Campus and Europe-Asia Campus of Sciences Po and currently Lecture a course for Master’s Programme in International Business Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki.

His work has been featured/is forthcoming in journals and books such as the International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law (IIC), the American Review of International Arbitration (Columbia Law School),  Journal of World Trade, the European Intellectual Property Review (EIPR), GRUR Int: Journal of European and International IP Law, Journal of World Intellectual Property, the Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice, the Oxford Handbook on International Law in Asia and Pacific, the International Arbitration Law Review, the European Federation for Investment Law and Arbitration (EFILA), the Research Handbook on Intellectual Property and Investment Law (Edward Elgar Publishing), the Stockholm Intellectual Property Law Review. He is a fellow of the Global Policy Forum for Nepal (UK) and has advised the Government of Nepal on IPRs and investment issues. As an executive committee member, he leads the New IP Lawyers Network at the University of Exeter (UK).

He serves as a member of the editorial board for the Global Trade and Customs Journal, Kluwer Law International since 2018, and edited Special Issue on China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
