Personal profile

Description of research and teaching

I serve as an Assistant Professor of Japanese and Chinese Languages at the University of Helsinki. As a linguist, I focus on language description from a functional-typological approach. My research concerns the endangered minority languages of China. In particular, I have conducted fieldwork of the Gyalrongic languages in Sichuan. In addition, I currently engage in investigating the Dungan language (Central Asian Chinese) from the viewpoint of language contact and continue my research on the Shang Chinese language, the earliest attested Sinitic language. I teach various courses on languages and linguistics of Asia.
