Description of research and teaching

I started my PhD studies in 2017 just after graduating from Environmental Sciences, Environmental Change and Policy as my major (University of Helsinki). In my master studies I worked with high-latitude peatlands and plant macrofossil analysis.

In my PhD I am continuing with the same topics but with a broader perspective. My research is concentrating on recent changes in vegetation, hydrology and carbon accumulation dynamics in high-latitude and permafrost peatlands. The approach is palaeoecological and motivated by climate warming induced changes in high-latitudes. The study sites are located in northernmost Fennoscandia, Eastern Canada, European Russia and Svalbard. The research is part of two Academy of Finland funded projects (CAPTURE and “Response of high-latitude peatlands to past and recent warming – predictions for future”).
