Description of research and teaching

My research interests include diplomatic history from a cultural perspective, eighteenth-century language and media history as well as tourism and travelling during the first half of the twentieth century. My dissertation dealt with diplomacy as a social practice and focused on foreign envoys in Stockholm in the 1740s. In my ongoing post doc project, I am looking at how tourism was perceived and defined in the Nordic countries in the interwar period.

I am a member of the Nordic Peace Network (2023–2025), which explores peace building and peace practices in Scandinavia during the long eighteenth century. I’ve been a board member of the Finnish Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies since 2012 and an elected member of ISECS Executive Committee since 2019.
