Curriculum vitae

I study learning and development of mathematical skills in early childhood and elementary school education. The mathematical skills include, but are not limited to, early numeracy, problem-solving, and fraction skills. Methodologically, I employ mostly quantitative research methods such as meta-analysis, cross-sectional and longitudinal observational designs, and experimental educational interventions. I perform data analyses in R but also in Mplus, SPSS, and Jamovi.

I hold a PhD in education from the University of Helsinki. Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at Research in Mathematics Education unit at Southern Methodist University. I contribute to project SCALE (Scalability, Capacity, and Learning Engagement for Fraction Face-Off). The project conducts randomized controlled trials to test the effectiveness of a fraction intervention for students experiencing mathematics difficulties, with funding from the U.S. Department of Education.

I’m also a visiting scholar at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Helsinki. I also serve as JURE Coordinator for the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI) Special Educational Needs Interest Group (SIG 15). I’m an Associate Editor for the journal Review of Education and serve as a peer-reviewer for scientific publications.

Due to my background in special education, I am especially interested in developing intervention and evaluation methods to support students’ mathematical skills.
