Description of research and teaching

Terhi Utriainen is Professor in the Study of Religions at the University of Helsinki (Faculty of Theology) as well as Adjunct Professor (Docent) both in the Study of Religions and Gender Studies. Her research and teaching interests include ethnography of lived and vernacular religion, gender and embodiment, ritual studies, death, dying and suffering. She is co-editor of Post-secular Society (Transaction Publishers 2013), Finnish Women Making Religion: Between Ancestors and Angels (Palgrave MacMillan 2014) and The Relational Dynamics of Enchantment and Sacralization: Changing the Terms of the Religion versus Secularity Debate (Equinox 2016), and recently the special issue Appropriation as a Perspective and Topic in the Study of Religon in the journal Approaching Religion (13/3). She is the series editor of Brill Handbook on Contemporary Religion.
