Personal profile

Curriculum vitae

I have studied hydrobiology at the University of Jyväskylä. My PhD thesis, “Role of allochthonous and autochthonous dissolved organic matter as a carbon source for bacterioplankton in boreal humic lakes”, was finished in 2004 at the Faculty of Biosciences (Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences/Aquatic Sciences) at the University of Helsinki. Mainly my research has been focused on aquatic microbial ecology, especially on factors controlling growth of bacteria in humic lakes. Much of my research has also been dealing with the effects of external loading (nutrients, heavy metals, acidification) on lake ecosystems. After the dissemination I worked as a post-doc researcher in two projects concerning 1) trace gas fluxes from the lakes and climate change and 2) the role of denitrification in the nitrogen cycle in lakes.

At the moment I’m working as a senior assistant at the Lammi Biological Station. Although my work is mainly administrative work I try to find some time also for the research activities.
