Description of research and teaching

Research interests:
oral poetry, oral tradition, lament tradition, expression and communication, affects and emotion, archived audio recordings, (ethno)musicology, sound analysis

In my PhD project, I examine Karelian lament tradition from textual, musical, and emotional perspectives. Ethnopoetics, Oral-Formulaic Theory and Performance Theory constitute my main theoretical framework, and I also apply multidisciplinary affect and emotion theories as well as sensory ethnographic methods.
