Description of research and teaching

Viljami Vaarala is a Doctoral Researcher in the Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences. He studies the conceptions of knowledge and truth among news professionals and epistemic contestation taking place in the emerging podcast sphere. His doctoral thesis handles the discursive processes of political meaning making within the metajournalistic discourse through which journalistic knowledge is being both defended and criticized.

Vaarala's overall interest focuses on the questions regarding journalism's epistemology and the ideology of journalism.

Vaarala has a M.Soc.Sc. in Global Politics and Communication from the University of Helsinki and a BA in Journalism from the University of Jyväskylä.
