Description of research and teaching

Dr. Wei Li is a Docent (Adjunct Professor) and Principal Investigator at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Helsinki and a Fellow of the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE). His research group works on drug delivery, nanomedicine, pharmaceutical nanotechnology, biomaterials, and microfluidics.

In 2015, Dr. Wei Li received his Ph.D. degree (supervisor: Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini) and moved to the University of Helsinki with Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Fellowship (supervisors: Prof. Hélder A. Santos and Prof. Mart Saarma). The Faculty of Pharmacy appointed him Principal Investigator in 2019, and the University of Helsinki awarded him the Title of Docent (Adjunct Professor) in 2020.

Since 2017, Dr. Wei Li has secured grants from the Academy of Finland, Sigrid Jusélius Foundation, Mary and Georg C. Ehrnrooth Foundation, Finnish Foundation of Cardiovascular Research, Finnish Red Cross Blood Service Research Fund, Orion Research Foundation, and Finnish Cultural Foundation. He has published first/corresponding-authored papers in journals of high impact such as Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Materials Horizons, and Biomaterials. One of these articles received the Most Outstanding Pharmaceutical Research Article Award (Finnish Pharmaceutical Society). In recognition of Dr. Wei Li’s outstanding research and supervision outcomes, the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Helsinki awarded him the Young Researcher’s Award in 2020.
