Growing demand for organic food offers a great deal of new opportunities for small food business operators. The main objective of the project is to encourage entrepreneurs and business start-ups to see the increasing demand for organic food and the opportunities it offers. Consumers’ interest in organic products will be increased by increasing the supply and diversity of organic products.
Organic food production requires good knowledge in the manufacture and marketing of products. In addition, good networks between raw material producers and buyers are needed as well as customer understanding and the ability to monitor consumer trends. Competitiveness of small businesses will be developed by increasing their processing expertise. The project is carried out by Natural Resources Institute Finland (coordinator) and University of Helsinki Ruralia Institute.
