Century of history in Kuortane 1860–1960

The aim of the project is to create an overview of the development of the rural municipality of Kuortane in Southern Ostrobothnia. Until now, there has been a lack of a wide-ranging local historical study of Kuortane, although Heikki Klemetti wrote a vivid description in 1932.

For Kuortane, the years from 1860s to 1960s were those of growth and changes. The project also follows wider national and regional development of the era.

Research and writing is done by Sulevi Riukulehto’s research group, mainly Teppo Ylitalo. The municipality of Kuortane has set up a steering group for the project, chairman being Rauno Laitila.
