Layman's description

This multi-professional, longitudinal research project aims to enhance understanding on the emergence of language ability among very preterm (VP) children (born at <32 weeks of gestational age and/or birth weight <1500 g) and the factors associated with it. Main focus is on early identification and intervention of weak language (WL) development in this group. Emerging language abilities of 140 VP children and their full-term controls (N=100) will investigated between 1 and 3 years of age in the light of cognitive (e.g. working memory skills) and social (e.g. parental well-being) factors. Project includes a randomized controlled trial on early intervention of WL in VP children.
