Description (abstract)

Modern farms use a lot of fossil energy in agricultural production and release notable emissions to the air and water. The use of fossil energy could in many cases be replaced by bio energy produced by the farms themselves. With better nutrient cycling (for example better utilization of wastes) and proper plant species (for example using nitrogen fixing plants and cover crops), inorganic fertilizer usage can be replaced.
The project generates designs and demonstrates farms which consume minimum fossil energy and produce minimum pollution. The farms produce food for humans, feed for animals as well as bio energy for consumption.
