FiCoS: Fishermen, Cormorants and Seals - Finding sustainable solutions for co-existence

Project Details

Description

In this pre-study, we will draw up a project plan to investigate the impact of cormorants and seals on the economic and social values of fishing and fishing communities. The conflict between the small-scale coastal fishery and the species protection will be examined to gain a better understanding of how the conflict can be alleviated. The preliminary study is done in collaboration between a new composition of project partners with very different backgrounds, skills and perspectives on the issue. The idea is that the project will lead to better management of the marine environment and marine resources, thereby creating better conditions for the development of coastal fisheries in the long term.

The project is funded by European Regional Development Fund, from Interreg Botnia-Atlantica programme. The project is implemented in cooperation with The Ostrobothnian Fisheries Association, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and University of Helsinki Ruralia institute.
